Death they say is inevitable. In barely six months into the year 2022, Nollywood has bid farewell to a number of well-known public celebrities and cultural icons.
While some died of illness, others died in strange circumstances. The following are ten Nollywood actors and actresses who died this year.
1. Tafa Oloyede

The news of legendary actor Adewuni Adewoye also known as Tafa Oloyede, passing away just as we were entering the second month of the year broke the internet. At the age of 69, he passed away on February 1st. Oloyede, who began acting in 1974 under Oyin Adejobi’s supervision, is best known for roles in films such as Jaiyesimi, Ayanmo, Ekuro Oloja, Orogun, and Akanji Oniposi. This year, he would have turned 70.
2. Romanus Amuta

While Nollywood was still in grief, another legendary actor, Romanus Amuta, better known as Natty in the revived NTA comedy series “New Masquerade,” passed away on February 9 at the age of 79 following a long illness.
3. Lari Williams

Lari Willams, a veteran actor, died on the 28th of February, the last day of the month.
After a protracted illness, the movie star died at the age of 81. Williams died at his home in Ikom, Cross River State. He was the first president of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria.
In addition to being a poet and playwright, he was also involved in theater productions.
4. Olúweri Màgbóòjò

Just as celebrities were preparing to pay their respects to Lari Williams, news emerged that actress Shade Akin Taylor Aberuagba, better known by her stage name Oluweri Magboojo, had passed away. Shade was known for her dramatic makeup, particularly her thick brows. She starred in the film “Olweri Màgbój” in which she played the lead role.
5. Dejo Tunfulu

Nigerians were shocked to learn of Dejo’s death. Many others thought it was an April Fool’s joke when they heard the tragic news, especially considering he was seen at an event just a few days before his death. Dejo Tunfulu, also known as Kunle Makinde Adetokunbo, died on April 1 following a brief illness. Dejo Tunfulu was born on May 31, 1972, in Idumota, Lagos Island, Lagos State. He was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“Hally The Drummer” and “Jide Jendo” were among the films in which the humorous actor, writer and producer appeared.

On May 4, actor David Osagie better known as Sir David, died after filming on set the previous day.
Ngozi Ezeh, a coworker, announced his death indicating that the actor was not ill.
